Like every municipality, large and small, Fillmore has its share of challenges. As a sensible, thoughtful, pro-active and hard-working leader, I'll continue to address these challenges, knowing that I'm part of a larger team and when we work together, we succeed and achieve great things for the people of Fillmore.

Accountability & Responsiveness / Responsabilidad y capacidad de respuesta
Accountability and responsiveness as been front and center in my work on City Council - from fixing potholes, re-paving streets and graffiti abatement, to re-vamping our Military Heroes Banner Program and addressing the homeless encampment and business permit concerns, to ensuring for affordable homes in the forthcoming North Fillmore housing subdivision. I'll continue to prioritize this by answering calls and messages, listening and getting a full understanding of residents' concerns and working with City management and staff to address all issues brought forward. I encourage all residents, no matter what new City District you reside in, to reach out to me with not only your concerns, but also your ideas and suggestions to improve City services.

Supporting Our infrastructure / Apoyando Nuestra Infraestructura
The sewer line collapse and repair that took place in 2023 demonstrated that maintaining our infrastructure is of utmost importance, but also is maintaining our infrastructure fund reserves at high levels, so that when an emergency does occur, we're prepared as a City to address it effectively and efficiently. I'll continue to advocate for pro-active, forward-thinking infrastructure support and maintaining robust infrastructure reserve funds for our city.

Affordable and Workforce Housing / Vivienda Asequible y Para Trabajadores
My first four years on the Fillmore Council demonstrated my leadership and commitment to addressing our national housing crisis here locally in our town: promoting the application process for our residents for our new affordable housing complex; helping bridge communication between the city and affordable housing developers so that a forthcoming affordable housing complex can be greenlighted and ensuring that Fillmore families, seniors and people with disabilities are not left out of the affordable homes that will be built in North Fillmore in the next two years. I've taken initiative to attend and speak at housing conferences, forums, trainings and workshops so that I can become an subject matter expert on housing, and I'll continue to be a leader on this issue, including exploring how the City can support developers of workforce housing that benefits our farmworkers, teachers, child care workers, first-responders, healthcare workers, retail workers and more.

Growing With Our Growing Community / Creciendo Con Nuestra Comunidad Creciente
Between 2013 and 2023, the population of Fillmore increased by nearly 13%. As we continue to grow with new development in town and on our northern outskirts, we're faced with ensuring that our infrastructure, City services and recreational and economic opportunities are sufficient to meet the needs of our expanding community. I'll continue to work with my fellow Councilmembers and City management to support initiatives, grants and partnerships that provide more opportunities our families to work, play and invest their time here in Fillmore.

Resilience in the Face of Extreme Weather / Resiliencia al Clima Extremo
Ventura County is warming faster than any other county in the continental U.S., which for Fillmore will likely mean that we will face more extreme weather events more often - high winds, fires, heavy rains and extreme heat days at or above 100 degrees. I'll continue to support and promote policies that build our community's resilience in the face of extreme weather, including being pro-active on potential flooding concerns, supporting weatherization for our older residences to be cooler in the summer, warmer in the winter and more energy efficient and making our community spaces, parks, walking and bicycle paths more resilient to extreme heat. As our Fillmore City Council's representative on Southern California Edison's Government Advisory Panel, I'll continue to be engaged with SCE as our power distributor to protect Fillmore as much as possible from 1. having to undergo Public Safety Power Shut-off, and 2. when Public Safety Power Shut-offs cannot be avoided, ensuring that Fillmore residents are fully aware ahead of time as much as possible to that they can plan ahead for their health and safety.
