Meet Christina
Hi everyone! Here's a bit of my background. My roots run deep here - My family goes back to Fillmore and the Santa Clara Valley nearly 100 years - on both sides! My maternal grandparents Simon and Jennie (Sanchez) Medina arrived in Fillmore with Jennie's family in the early 1930s and worked as farmworkers while raising their 8 children on Clay Street, often traveling north on the migrant circuit during the summer months. The same is similar for my paternal grandparents, Pablo and Lupe Reyes and their 4 children in Santa Paula. I was blessed and privileged to grow up comfortably in a happy, stable home, graduated from St. Bonaventure High School and then went on to earn my Bachelor's at UC Berkeley and later my Master's in Public Health and UCLA. While at Cal, I became passionate about health and all the social, economic and environmental factors that influence our health, and well as the importance of public policies to improve health outcomes and decided to pursue this as a career. I worked for 4 years at Latino Issues Forum, a statewide-public policy and advocacy institute, then after graduate school I worked at the LA County Dept. of Public Health for 11 years, 6 as a member of the SEIU Local 721, and 5 years in management.
My greatest joy and accomplishment, however, has been raising my daughter. Before I had the wonderful privilege and blessing to be home with her, I was a commuter to Los Angeles, gone from town early and late hours, without the ability to invest any time in our community. That changed when I was able to stay home, start taking my daughter to the Fillmore library story time, make friends and get more involved with what's happening here in our town. In the spirit of community service, giving back and using my talents and skills in public policy analysis and problem-solving for the larger good, I decided to run for City Council and won the at-large 2020 election with the most votes in the history of our city.
Since then, there's been no looking back. As a Councilmember representing the City of Fillmore, I've been able to be the bridge and connector to City Hall for many residents, addressing and helping to solve issues that arise and improve communication between the City and our residents. I've represented Fillmore on the Ventura Regional Sanitation District, which oversees our local Toland Rd. landfill; the Fillmore/Piru Basin Groundwater Sustainability Agency, which is tasked with ensuring our supply of groundwater and surface water are sustainable for our residents, our local agriculture and our environment; and the Ventura County Regional Energy Alliance, whose mission is to make Ventura County a leader in reducing energy demand and increasing energy efficiency
by advancing the use of clean, efficient and renewable local resources.
Outside of my official city roles, I'm also on several community non-profit boards, including CAUSE Action Fund, Community Action Ventura County, and most recently One Step a la Vez, serving teens ages 13-19 here in Fillmore and House Farmworkers!, which promotes affordable, safe and stable housing for Ventura County farm workers and their families. My family and I have been parishioners at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Santa Paula for over 50 years and I'm blessed to be a regular lector at Sunday mass. I'm also a softball and basketball mom, a neighborhood mom trying to recreate my 80s childhood for the kids with lots of outdoor free-play time and impromptu crafts and projects, and a dog mom who loves chatting with my neighbors about the evolving and improving dog park! When the small pockets of downtime arise, I'll go for a lap swim at our Fillmore pool or go for a bike ride on our beautiful bike path, try a new recipe from my cookbooks, or read a good mystery/suspense novel. I wouldn't be able to do any of this without the loving support of my #1 hubby Albert.

¡Hola a todos! Aquí hay un poco de mis antecedentes. Mis raíces son profundas aquí: mi familia llego a Fillmore y al Valle de Santa Clara hace casi 100 años, ¡en ambos lados! Mis abuelos maternos Simon y Jennie (Sánchez) Medina llegaron a Fillmore con la familia de Jennie a principios de la década de 1930 y trabajaron como trabajadores agrícolas mientras criaban a sus 8 hijos en Clay Street, y a menudo viajaban hacia el norte en el circuito migratorio durante los meses de verano. Eso cambió cuando pude quedarme en casa, comenzar a llevar a mi hija a la hora de cuentos de la biblioteca de Fillmore, hacer amigos e involucrarme más con lo que está sucediendo aquí en nuestra ciudad. Con un espíritu de servicio comunitario, retribuyendo y utilizando mis talentos y habilidades en el análisis de políticas públicas y la resolución de problemas para el bien común, decidí postularme para el Concejo Municipal y gané las elecciones generales de 2020 con la mayor cantidad de votos en la historia. de nuestra ciudad.
Desde entonces, no ha habido vuelta atrás. Como concejal que representa a la ciudad de Fillmore, he podido ser el puente y conector con el Ayuntamiento para muchos residentes, abordando y ayudando a resolver problemas que surgen y mejorando la comunicación entre la ciudad y nuestros residentes. He representado a Fillmore en el Distrito Regional de Saneamiento de Ventura, que supervisa nuestra Toland Rd local. vertedero; la Agencia de Sostenibilidad de Aguas Subterráneas de la Cuenca Fillmore/Piru, que tiene la tarea de garantizar que nuestro suministro de aguas subterráneas y superficiales sea sostenible para nuestros residentes, nuestra agricultura local y nuestro medio ambiente; y la Alianza Energética Regional del Condado de Ventura, cuya misión es hacer del Condado de Ventura un líder en la reducción de la demanda de energía y el aumento de la eficiencia energética.impulsando el uso de recursos locales limpios, eficientes y renovables.

Cuando surgen pequeños momentos de tiempo libre, voy a nadar en nuestra piscina Fillmore o dar un paseo en bicicleta por nuestro hermoso carril bici, probar una nueva receta de mis libros de cocina o leer una buena novela de misterio o suspenso.
